How to deal with a bipolar parent?

my mom has episodes every 2 - 3 months and i get grounded for stupid reason and keeps me from my boyfriend and friends i miss them! HELPHow to deal with a bipolar parent?
Has your mom really got bi-polar? I have this disorder and I never took it out on my kids that way. You are a teen and teens make mistakes that calls for reasons to ground them. So think before you act and things should be better for you.

THINK

GOOD LUCK!!!!How to deal with a bipolar parent?
Don't blame it on her illness. Just go along with it. How would you feel if you were diagnosed as retarded or crazy and every time you did something your mom didn't like, she was like oh she is just retarded or crazy. Have sympathy and respect her, despite the fact that she is ill.

If she is being irrational, consider what will happen if you defy her. See your friends some other time, and don't do anything that might get you in trouble. Some people get grounded for little things when there parents do not have a mental illness, it is a part of childhood.
I would speak to your school counselor about trying to understand someone with this disorder. I think understanding the disorder will help you cope with having to deal with her. Or if you don't want to talk about it with someone...try going to a bookstore (probably in the self-help section) and get something about ';understanding bipolar disorder';. or research that on the internet. I'm sure you'll find something to help. Good Luck!
