Hopefully your parent has been prescribed medication and they are compliant in taking their meds. Many clients cope well with life.
But if they refuse to take theirs meds it is miserable.
Also, if they are self-medicating through drugs and/or alcohol it is even more miserable.
So if they are complaint in their meds, help them keep up on the doctors' appointments.
If they aren't complaint, please get counseling to help you deal with this. My guess is you are a minor living at home; some resources may be talk to your school counselor, contact NAMI, www.nami.org and even consider calling Child Protective Services if your health and well being are at risk.

It's not easy. They should be on medication.
my advice is just when she/he is in there mood swing just take it calmly, r they severe bi-polar? Some severe bi-polar patients will have weird thoughts and delusions if not on proper meds. Good luck to u and your parent i know its not easy and it emotional for the children to go through.
you should always be there for them and make sure that they know that they can always come to you to talk about their feelings. As for medication, its fine if your ok with the risk. My aunt is bipolar, but her medication sometimes makes her either hyper-active or suicidal.
well MY MOM AND AD were Bipioler
Later found out I was to!!!!! never got along with parents but now I know why!
They passed away But I least I still got along with them after I grew up and realized.
set one to ';+'; and one to ';-';
and watch the sparks fly!
You cleave them in half, and keep the better part.
Become tri-polar.
