Can someone who turned down money in a parent's will, go back years later and try to claim the inheritance?

A family member who suffered from severe schizophrenia, was to inherit a large sum of money from her mothers will. At the time she refused the money and signed documents to that effect. After years of treatment, she is doing much better and wonders if she can go back and reclaim the inheritance? by the way she was the only child and sole benificiary. Can someone who turned down money in a parent's will, go back years later and try to claim the inheritance?
If she was not competent when she signed the documents, and the person who drew up said documents is the beneficiary, then there is a chance the heir can recover. Have see a lawyer asap. Can someone who turned down money in a parent's will, go back years later and try to claim the inheritance?
The beneficiary needs to see an attorney immediately. If she wasn't competent at the time she signed her rights away, the court might hold that the receiver of the inheritance was holding the proceeds as a constructive trust for the proper heir.
Depends what the papers she signed said. She very well may have surrendered the money to someone else.
No,

not after the papers were signed.
