What is a Greek-American parent's worst nightmare of what their children will become?

Turkish. (Knock on wood. :P)

It is possible to be Turkish by marrying a Turkish citizen.

Yes, yes, I know I deserve the best answer. :)

Well, cpinatsi, I don't know about your laws, but our laws say that if you are a Turkish citizen, then you are a Turk. Booo! What is a Greek-American parent's worst nightmare of what their children will become?
Macedonians ?What is a Greek-American parent's worst nightmare of what their children will become?
Unhappy. Period.
Like most parents...become a good person and bring them nice Greek grandchildren...lol
I really want to answer this, but I have no intention of getting

reported. If you really want to know my answer, email me and I'll tell you.

Well done Amazona! I think an anti-drug message is always the best mesage.

I-run, by marrying a Turk you don't become Turkish, as by marrying a Greeke you don't become Greek, and by marrying an English you don't become English, even if you get the citizenship. I don't mean anything against anyone with that, I just mean that a person is not identified by passports, but by what is in this person!
Probably that they'll marry a non-Greek ( a foreign hussy like me!) .... who knows???
I would have to agree the rest of the people and say marrying a non Greek. Or even worse, marrying someone of a different race. Not all Greek people of course, but I know quite a few that feel that way.

I'm not saying I agree with that, but you can't deny a lot of Greek-American parents feel that way.
marrying someone from a different religion, my parents wouldnt care so much if i got married to a Turk but would care more if he is a Turk and a muslim, or a jew or anything else. Religion is important and i agree with them, i dont want to get married outside my religion, because i want my kids to have the same religion as i.
Transexuals. Seriously. For most greeks at least.

Personally, as a greek, my biggest worry would be seeing my kid unhappy with his life. Beyond that, Who cares?
Drug addicts. This is every parent's worst nightmare.Almost anything else is fine with me.

I don't really expect my children to marry Greeks, as there are a lot of other nice nationalities around us and a lot of Greeks...well... you get the point.(for the answer above:Turk is fine too if they love each other)

To drop out of school and not finding a job is bad,

to marry in an abusive relationship is up there, being gay well, yes, it's bad (since no grandchildren and there's still a lot of discrimination against), having mental issues, being ugly and not able to find a mate,(LOL).

So may other things that can happen and will affect your child's life...but nothing tops a parent's worst nightmare if their child becomes a drug addict and dies a slow and painful death...or a quick and easy one

I've seen it happening and I know it...it's by far the worst thing.
My mom [we're greek] says i cannot marry: Jews, Muslims, Turks, Albanians, Germans, African-Americans, and basically everything else thats not Greek. She is very afraid of me become a trashy drug-addicted hooker, dropping out of school, and turning to prostitution because it will ';ruin our family name.'; :]
