that really depends on what field each of you are in and how close you two are stationed. For instance, the stepson is an IC and is stationed in Yokosuka. His father is an IWO and is currently in the DC area.. little to no professional interaction at all. Even when we PCS to Okinawa next year there will be almost no professional interaction at all.
of course when DH went through Boot one of his fellows had a Father who was a Senior Chief at the time..and was dropped.. over the phone...
if you try and use Daddy's connections, it will come back and bite you ..HARD.. in the tush. If you keep your mouth shut and prove yourself a decent Sailor, then you will have no issues.
